Driver

Drivers are a key component for a successful A Simple Gesture pickup! The role of a driver is to pickup green ASG bags from households involved in the program. Every two months drivers are assigned a specific ASG route. After completing the route drivers are then asked to take the green bags to the Hunger and Health Coalition. If you are interested in becoming a driver please contact Alyssa Medina. You should receive a response within two business days!

Driver information:    

 

  1. Two weeks before an ASG pickup you will receive an email asking about availability for the next ASG pickup. 

  2.  If available, you will be assigned a route with directions of each household that is participating for that pickup. You will also be given a spreadsheet with contact information on each person on your route. 

  3. Before the pickup date call or email each person on your list to remind them that you are coming, and get any special instructions (some people may be out of town, or might leave their bag in the carport). 

  4. The day of ASG (typically the first Saturday of every other month) we ask drivers to start their route around 9:00 a.m. 

  5. At each stop on the route a driver will pick up the green bags, leave an empty green bag in its place.

  6. Once route is completed drivers will deliver the filled green bags to the Hunger and Health Coalition!

 

*We also have opportunities to pick up on Friday and the Tuesday after ASG. If you are interested in those dates, let us know!

food sorter

Food Sorters are a key component for a successful A Simple Gesture pickup! There are different task that a sorter can partake in on the day of ASG. The task are: weighing donations, crossing off barcodes, checking dates on the food and stocking the shelves at the Hunger and Health Coalition. This is a great job for individuals or groups! If you are interested in becoming a sorter please contact Alyssa Medina. You should receive a response within two business days!

Here's what to expect:

  1. At the beginning of each month, you will receive an email to ask if you can volunteer that month. If you aren't available every month, no worries, volunteer when you can! 
     

  2. If you are available, we will assign you to a pantry. Come from 10-12:30 and wear your close-toed shoes.
     

  3. You will help unload cars, weigh food, sort food into rough categories. You will also get to know some amazing other volunteers in the community and have a wonderful time making sure food gets to community members who need it the most!
